sacrifice nature makes for humans.

• To develop the writing skills of students.

• To make them familiar with the writing style of newspapers.

– understand the present condition of nature.

The learner
– might know about the writing style of newspapers.
– have read newspapers.
– might know about the ways in which nature is being exploited.

The teacher creates a rapport with the students through an informal talk.

Entry activity

The teacher asks the students as to how they will know about what is happening around them and they come up with the reply ‘Newspaper’, ‘Television’ etc… 

Link talk 

So today we are going to learn the main theme of the lesson ‘The Nightingale and the Rose ‘ through a newspaper. The teacher shows the newspaper. 

Innovative work

The teacher asks the students about the contents of a newspaper and the answers are : Title, date, place of publication, main headline, editorial, notices, advertisements, obituary etc…

The teacher first shows the headline. 
“Life for Love”
This news item announces the death of the nightingale and the reason for its death. By this news item, the students are able to get a clear picture of the nightingale’s death.


This news item warns the animals about the forest fire that is spreading to other parts of the forest.

Editorial
“Depleting Forest Cover”
It throws light on the growing problem of deforestation. It covers the causes and effects of deforestation on animals. The students will be able to understand the causes of deforestation and the preventive measures to be taken to reduce deforestation.

“Disguised Face Revealed”
This news item was included to provide the students additional information about the defense mechanism of a caterpillar. When the caterpillar feels threatened, its body swells up into the shape of a snake’s head with two black markings as the snake’s eyes. A picture of the disguised caterpillar was also included in the news item.

“The Jungle Book”
The advertisement of the film ‘The Jungle Book’ was also given in the newspaper.
